KIEV.
Kiev is the capital and the largest city of Ukraine. It is located in the north central part of the country on the Dnieper River. The population of Kiev is about 2.7 million inhabitants. Kiev is an important industrial, scientific, educational and cultural centre of Eastern Europe. It is a home of many high-tech industries, higher education institutions and world-famous historical landmarks.
The symbol of Kiev is of course Independence Square or Maydan Nezalezhnosty. It is the main square of the capital. The people which live in Kiev say that the soul of Kiev is Independense square. But the heart of Kiev is Khreschatic. It was and still is the main sight of Kiev. This street is much younger than city. Kreschatik starts from the European square. There is a Kiev city council and the Kiev city state administration, the State Committee of TV and broadcasting, the Ministry of an agrarian policy, the Ukrainian House, the main post office, the Central department store. Kreschatik is one of the most favourite places of the Kiev inhabitants and the visitors of city. They always like to walk slowly along the street, listen to creativity of different musicians which are stratched along the street. TheIndependence Square and Khreschatyk Street becomes a large outdoor party place at night during summer months. Thousands of people having a good time in nearby restaurants, clubs and outdoor cafes. The central streets are closed for auto traffic on weekends and holidays.
On high hills of the right coast of Dnieper are the majesticl towers of Kievo-Pecherskaya Lavra. It is the heart and one of the main monasteries of Russian orthodox church.
Golden Gates in Kiev are the monument of defensive architecture of Kiev during the period of Jaroslav the Wise rule. It was the main gate of Old Kiev.
Andreevskiy Abrupt attract visitors more and more. Now Andreevskiy descent is the street and museum at the same time. It is one of the main Kiev's tourist sight. Many wellknown scientists, scientists, writers, composers, sculptures, artists worked.
The city has an extensive infrastructure and highly developed system of public transport, including the Kiev Metro (underground).The Dnieper River divides Kiev into the Right Bank and the Left Bank areas.
Modern Kiev is a mix of the old and the new times. It is seen in the architecture, culture and people. As a result, Kiev's "downtown" is a dotted contrast of new, modern buildings amongst the pale yellows, blues and grays of older apartments.
It is said that one can walk from one end of Kiev to the other in the summertime without leaving the shade of its many trees. Most characteristic are the horse-chestnuts. Kiev is known as a green city with two botanical gardens and numerous large and small parks. The green nature of the city is probably most notable by the green hills of the right bank along the Dnieper river. The World War II Museum is located here, which offers both indoor and outdoor displays of military history and equipment surrounded by verdant hills overlooking the Dnieper river.
On the River Dnueper there are numerous islands. Venetsianskyi (or Hidropark) is the most developed among them. It is accessible by metro or by car, and includes an amusement park, swimming beaches, boat rentals, and night clubs. The Victory Park (Park Peremohy) located near Darnytsia subway station. It is a populthe ar destination for strollers, joggers, and cyclists.
For visitors of Kiev on the territory of city there is a network of road service stations, railway station and the international airport Borispol.
